The work of Asociación ProParques, one of the organizations supported by the Demain Foundation, continues to make a significant impact on the country’s National Parks. In 2022, two accessible walkways were built: one in Manuel Antonio National Park and the other in Bahía Junquillal National Wildlife Refuge.
These structures became a reality through a campaign that collected over 30 tons of plastic bottle caps to turn them into raw materials for building beach access points.
“The bottle cap collection campaign provides a solution for reusing a material that not all recycling facilities accept and that sadly ends up in rivers and oceans. This raw material allows us to create plastic wood, which is essential for our project,” said Rocío Echeverri, Executive Director of Asociación ProParques.
The first walkway, located in Manuel Antonio National Park, stretches 164 meters, enabling beach access for people with reduced mobility. The project also included the donation of an amphibious wheelchair to ensure that individuals with disabilities can safely enter the ocean.
Additionally, since December 2022, the Bahía Junquillal National Wildlife Refuge has featured four wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and a 100-meter walkway, allowing people with disabilities to access the beach. The project also donated another amphibious wheelchair for visitors’ use.
For the Demain Foundation, it is deeply satisfying to work toward a better tomorrow alongside the community, with the environment being one of the core pillars driving our mission.
