The Future Lies in Reading

In alliance with Editorial La Jirafa y Yo, and its proven Leo y Lea methodology Demain Foundation is proud to launch the initiative “The Future Lies in Reading”, to ensure every child opens the door to the world through literacy.

Why Leo y Lea?

  • More than 20,000 students students in Costa Rica have learned to read with this collection.
  • In Grade 1, the program builds the foundation for correct and fluent reading, focusing on phonological awareness, decoding, and intonation.
  • From Grades 2 to 6, the leveled anthologies deepen reading comprehension, enrich vocabulary, and promote critical thinking.

Professor Norma, an expert in reading methodologies, explains in this short video  how Leo y Lea uses a sequence of exercises that:

  1. Strengthen word decoding .
  2. Encourage expressive reading as a tool for comprehension.
  3. Stimulate reflection on the text and its connection to the student’s reality.

Our Commitment

Through this project, Demain Foundation reaffirms its mission to deliver quality education. To achieve this, we:

  • Expand the program to public schools in both urban and rural areas.
  • Train teachers in the practical implementation of Leo y Lea.
  • Continuously monitor progress in fluency and comprehension to adapt materials and methods.

We believe that reading is the master key that builds informed, empathetic, and critical citizens. Investing in “The Future Lies in Reading” means securing a fairer, more inclusive, and more sustainable tomorrow for all.
