In a constantly changing world, the role of teachers is becoming increasingly challenging and strategic. Aware that quality education depends directly on teacher preparation, IB Compass, with the support of Demain Foundation, implemented a robust training program in 2024 aimed at strengthening the teaching of the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the region.
Thanks to this joint effort, 16 specialized workshops were conducted, training 235 teachers, of whom 164 belong to public institutions. These training sessions focused on updating teachers on the new guides, methodologies, and approaches of the IB Diploma Programme, thus directly improving the educational experience of thousands of students.
“The impact of a well-trained teacher is immeasurable. They are the ones who mediate knowledge, inspire critical thinking, and uphold classroom quality. At Demain Foundation, we believe that strengthening the teaching staff is key to closing gaps and ensuring that all students, regardless of their context, have access to a global and inclusive education,” said Andrea Cartín Berrocal, Executive Director of Demain Foundation.
The workshops were not only aimed at national teachers but also included the participation of international educators, enabling multicultural enrichment and the expansion of academic boundaries. This exchange represents a significant step toward IB Compass, vision of connecting public and private schools in Latin America with the global quality standards promoted by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
From subjects such as Theory of Knowledge, Language A and B, Sciences, to the design and support of CAS projects, the workshops were aligned with the pedagogical, assessment, and ethical principles of the International Baccalaureate. The content was updated according to the most recent official guides from the IBO, enabling teachers to apply innovative, inclusive, and student-centered teaching approaches.
“At IB Compass, we know that each workshop is a seed that impacts multiple classrooms. Our commitment is to accompany teachers in their growth and continuous learning process, ensuring that the IB student profile can flourish through everyday classroom practice,” explained Alejandra Fernández, Executive Director of IB Compass.
From Demain Foundation, we congratulate IB Compass for its technical leadership and strategic vision, and we reaffirm our commitment as an allied NGO in promoting the IB across Latin America. This program is a tangible example of how public-private partnerships can generate sustainable educational impact, empowering teachers and opening new opportunities for students in vulnerable communities.
